Reflections on living across the world - A Homecoming Perspective
Many of us have families spread across the globe. Returning from the UK after a family celebration has left me with a mixture of joy and nostalgia. Reconnecting with loved ones, sharing laughter, and creating memories are moments I cherish deeply. Yet, as I sit and reflect, I am reminded of the inherent challenges of living on the other side of the world.
The Distance Dilemma- longing
Living far away means missing out on countless family moments. Birthdays, anniversaries, and spontaneous get-togethers often happen without me. Technology helps bridge the gap, but it can never replace the connection of being physically present.
The Heartfelt Hellos and Goodbyes
Each visit home is marked by the excitement of reunion but also the inevitable sadness of farewell. These hellos and goodbyes never get easier, no matter how many times I experience them, especially as we and those we love get older.
Gratitude and Acceptance
Reflecting on my journey, I find a deep sense of gratitude. The opportunity to live and bring up a family in New Zealand is a privilege. At the same time, I am thankful for the strong family bonds that distance cannot weaken. Accepting the duality of my life—where joy and longing coexist—helps me navigate this complex path with a balanced heart.
As I unpack my bags and settle back into my routine, the memories of my recent trip serve as a reminder of the love and connections that endure, no matter the miles between us. Still musing on what belonging means to me, interested in what it means to you?
